5 Top Gloves Used for Medical Purposes

In healthcare centres, doctors, nurses, and other staff dealing with patients and medical tools need to wear a disposable glove. It has become an integral part of their daily life. Most medical gloves are disposable and available in all forms and colours. However, various materials are used to manufacture different disposable gloves. The variation of medical gloves made from other materials contains some unique properties for particular uses. Hence, it is vital to choose a suitable material. While choosing a glove, you should consider your purposes.

This article has enlisted five top-five gloves used for medical purposes:

  1. Chloroprene Gloves

This disposable glove is made of a rubbery synthetic material, which is well-known for its medical purposes. This glove resembles nitrile-made gloves for its puncture resistance and protection against hazards while treatment is going on. However, its molecular structure is much like natural rubber latex. It offers comfort and longevity like latex-type disposable gloves.

Chloroprene gloves do not include proteins that are present in latex gloves. The latter can cause allergic issues. Chloroprene gloves are comparatively costlier than latex ones. Still, they are more affordable than nitrile gloves.

  1. Latex Gloves

Latex gloves are made of a substance that ages on rubber trees. They are able to fit in a user’s hand. This glove is high-tactile sensitive and designed compactly. It offers the highest level of safety against viruses and bacteria. But it is not strong enough to protect the user from chemicals as its barrier is weaker than other gloves.

Latex gloves are comparatively more affordable than most of the other options available in the market. In this context, it is essential to note that latex gloves can cause latex allergies in some cases. That’s why some healthcare organisations avoid using latex gloves for their doctors, nurses, and other staff.

  1. Nitrile Gloves

Nitrile gloves are often called medical-grade. These are made of synthetic rubber. They are better than other gloves in terms of puncture and protection from viruses. For some people, these products are the best substitutes for latex gloves. They are durable and less likely to cause allergies.

  1. Powdered & Non-Powdered Gloves

These are the most user-friendly gloves that anyone can wear without any hassle. But they look messier. Powder-free gloves lack residue to decrease the chances of an allergic reaction. However, the user needs more time to put them on.

  1. Chlorinated & Non-Chlorinated Gloves

Chlorinated and non-chlorinated gloves belong to the powder-free glove category. This product is used with chlorine in the place of normal powder. It provides all the benefits provided by powdered products. The only disadvantage of chlorine-treated gloves is their durability. They are not durable enough and last only for a year and sometimes even less than a year.

Chlorine-free glove’s colour is much like regular test gloves, but it does not have the odour of chlorine. It is made of a gel or silicone coating, making the glove trigger allergies than the chlorinated ones.

Which glove is the best for medical purposes? It is hard to answer this question. All the varieties discussed above are made for particular usages, procedures, and preferences.

People buying medical gloves for the first time should wisely consider the frequency of usage and their chances of causing allergies. Before purchasing the gloves, make sure you are picking the suitable types of gloves that can meet your requirements.
