Though the mortality rate of COVID-19 – Coronavirus pandemic – is very low at 3-5%, the misinformation and disinformation are flooding the internet and making it even worse. To eliminate the threats, WHO and other health organizations are eagerly working with Google and other social media sites.

The contagious Coronavirus has caused the international market a loss of billions, closure of international borders, and suspension of international flights, stock markets crash, and lockdowns. Amidst the chaos, misinformation is adding to the agony of people.

Here are 5 things you must know about Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 in order to eliminate all the misinformation and disinformation floating all over the internet

1.         How it spreads?

If you are a parent, chances are you are worried about your children’s health. As this global health risk has made celebrities consider social distancing, it is important for us all to prevent the spread of COVI-19 by following the precautions highlight by experts of WHO, UNICEF, and other health organizations.

The virus spreads from direct contact as respiratory droplets transfer from an infected person to others. Along with this, the virus could also be transferred by touching any contaminated surface. To avoid becoming a victim, maintain at least 3-6 feet distance from people who are coughing, sneezing, or suffering from fever.

2.         Symptoms

It is very important to know that every flu, fever, coughing, and sneezing is not COVID-19 until they get tested positive. Still, it is equally important to maintain 3-6 feet distance from such persons.

The symptoms of Coronavirus COVID-19 include fever, shortness of breath, and cough. These are the symptoms with minor cases. One thing to add here is the mortality rate of COVID-19 is only 3% which means 97% of cases tested positive with virus recovers.

In more severe cases, COVID-19 infection can cause pneumonia and breathing difficulties. Initially, the disease was seen as pneumonia of unknown kind which later described as a new virus to corona family: Novel Coronavirus COVID-19. The disease is fatal among older people with pre-existing conditions.

3.         Precautions

Though the virus is rarely fatal, it widespread can cause problematic situations. By following precautions and maintaining basic hygiene, the infection can be prevented.

As the virus transfers via direct contact, it is highly advised to Wash your hands with soap or alcohol-based hand-rub/sanitizer for at least twenty (20) seconds frequently to prevent the infection.

Another important precaution is to cover your face, mouth, nose with a mask. Use tissue paper to cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Remember, by doing this you are not only saving yourself from catching the virus but also helping others not to get the virus transferred.

Throw used tissue paper to bin immediately after.

4.         Wearing Mask is necessary?

The world has faced a shortage of masks immediately after the pandemic broke out in China because some experts argued that wearing is necessary.

But as per recent reports of WHO, UNICEF, and other health maintaining institutes of the world, it is not necessary to wear a mask if you don’t have any symptoms. Frequently hand washing is highly important and if you cough or sneeze it is important to cover your mouth and nose to avoid the spread of the virus.

5.         Vaccine, Medicine, or Specific Treatment

The Coronavirus COVID-19 is a new member of the coronavirus family of SARS, SAR-CoV-2 which stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2. At the time of this writing, there is no medicine or vaccine to treat or cure the coronavirus COVID-19. Human trials are begun to discover the treatment and medicine but it will take some time.

To date, the best way to fight Coronavirus COVID-19 is to practice basic hygiene and maintaining at least 3-6 feet distance. Social distancing and self-isolation may also bear fruitful results.

To Wrap up, it is equally important to stay at home during this global health risk for you as well as for others. By taking preventive measures and practicing basic hygiene, you can avoid the disease and help the global cause to abolish Coronavirus COVID-19. Stay home, frequently wash hands, use soap or alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and practice social distancing. Lastly, remember all these measures are being taken not because the disease is more fatal but to control its spreading.
