The American musical group, Black Eyed Peas BEP, has a wide range of styles encompassing hip-hop, pop, and dance. It was the underground hip-hop movement of the 1990s that gave birth to Black Eyed Peas. The dissolution of the group made Atban Klann, rappers will.i.am (William James Adams) and apl.de.ap (Allan Pineda Lindo) added MC and dancer Taboo to form BEP. The real name of dancer Taboo is Jaime Luis Gomez and she is from East Los Angeles, California.
Early Hits of Black Eyed Peas
The debut of the group went great with Behind the Front (1998) which gained prominence mainly due to its positive socially conscious lyrics. Bridging the Gap (2000) was another major hit by the group. The Black Eyed Peas continued the legacy by appearances of hip-hop performers Mos Def, De La Soul, and Wyclef Jean.
Elephunk (2003) was the first major hit of the group that went to sell 2 million copies. It also beat that time’s “Hey Mama,” “Where Is the Love?” and “Let’s Get It Started”.
The next album was another commercially hit music by the Black Eyed Peas: Monkey Business (2005). The group won huge recognition with these works and toured various parts of the country.
This massive success and en extensive tour in support of Monkey Business, BEP went dormant for years. The deep sleep ended when Fergie released a multiplatinum solo record, The Dutchess. The next year, Will.i.am, credited for much of the production of this album, released Songs About Girls.
The Return of Black Eyed Peas
The group was massively popular and commercially successful with its first records. But it remained non-functional for a lot of time after Monkey Business. in 2009 with The E.N.D., the famous music group marked its return. This record became a ticket to their prominence in the pop music world.
“Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling” were ranked the best singles of the group. Between this period, the group crowned the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 for an unprecedented 26 straight weeks.
The year 2010 brought three Grammy Awards including the best pop vocal album to Black Eyed Peas. Though the follow-up album The Beginning (2010) was less successful, the group continued winning hearts of pop enthusiasts.
Like it did after Monkey Business, the Black Eyed Peas was dormant for several years. The three original members of the group teamed up with Marvel Comics. The collaboration brought a graphic novel Masters of the Sun: The Zombie Chronicles (2017) which was written by will.i.am with Marvel’s Benjamin Jackendoff and Damion Scott (illustrator).
