Instagram Taps TikTok Users in India as It Begins Testing Reels

Facebook-owned world’s largest photo-sharing social media, Instagram is reported to start testing in India its Reels feature as it seeks to replace TikTok. The sudden developments take place after the government had banned Tiktok along with 58 other Chinese apps in India.

Reels has been successfully tested in Brazil, Germany, and France. It is a cool new way to create and share short videos on Instagram. The social media experts believe that the said feature has the potential to compete with Tiktok.

Instagram’s latest feature Reels tested in India

Reels allows users to record and create a 15-second multi-clip video with audio, effects and new creative tools. These videos, just like any other content on Instagram, can be shared with friends and followers. the platform’s Explore feature can spread the video to wider Instagram communities.

The latest feature of Instagram, Reels has already started rolling at 7:30 pm on Wednesday. Instagram taps TikTok creators in India as it begins testing Reels with a diverse set of public figures and creators.

Many prominent and popular social media personalities, actors, influences, and showbiz stars have started rolling Reels. The list includes Arjun Kanungo, Jahnavi Dasetty aka Mahathalli, Indrani Biswas aka Wondermunna, Kusha Kapila, Ankush Bhaguna Ammy Virk,  Radhika Bangia, Gippy Grewal, Komal Pandey, and RJ Abhinav.

Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director of Facebook India, has expressed “video consumption” has been increased to “over a third of posts on Instagram in India”. This proves Instagram plays an important role in “unleashing expression in the country”. People not only express themselves on Instagram but also get themselves entertained.

Reels is said to “ignites creativity” and “unveiling the future of entertainment on the platform”. Mohan also added the feature will have multiple creative formats.

Create a Reel of your own

When you log in to Instagram, Reel will appear at the top of the Instagram camera. It has a variety of creative editing tools to make you create, edit, and share Reel. A reel consists of five elements: Audio, AR Effects, Timer and Counter, Align, and Speed.

Start by searching for a song from the Instagram music library for your reel. If you are looking for TikTok like features and videos, you can also record a Reel with your own audio. Cool!
